Tips for new players
If you’re new to paintball, here are some solid tips to help you have a great time and stay competitive:
Gear & Equipment
- Wear the Right Clothing – Long sleeves, pants, and gloves help protect against hits and bruises. Dark or camouflage colours work best.
- Choose a Good Mask – A fog-resistant, comfortable mask is crucial. Never remove it during a game!
- Test Your Marker (Gun) – Before the game starts, fire a few shots to get a feel for accuracy and range.
Game Strategy
- Keep Moving, But Stay Low – Standing still makes you an easy target. Crouch, stay behind cover, and move between positions.
- Use Cover Smartly – Don’t hug the wall or obstacle—stay a few inches back to avoid being an easy target.
- Peek, Don’t Expose – When looking around corners, tilt your head slightly rather than exposing your whole body.
Shooting & Accuracy
- Short, Controlled Bursts – Spraying paintballs wastes ammo. Aim and fire in quick bursts for accuracy.
- Lead Your Shots – If an opponent is moving, aim slightly ahead of them.
- Check Your Hopper – Sometimes, a paintball gets jammed. Shake your hopper lightly if needed.
Teamwork & Communication
- Talk to Your Teammates – Call out enemy positions and coordinate attacks.
- Flank When Possible – Instead of head-on fights, try to move around enemies to surprise them.
- Watch for Crossfire – Position yourself where teammates can support you, but not where you’ll accidentally shoot each other.
Mindset & Sportsmanship
- Respect Other Players – Play fair, call your hits, and be a good sport.
- Don’t Be Afraid to Get Hit – It’s part of the game. The more you play, the less you’ll worry about it.
- Stay Cool Under Fire – If you’re being shot at, keep moving and find cover instead of panicking.

Tips for playing laser skirmish?
Playing outdoor laser skirmish (also known as laser tag) requires a mix of strategy, teamwork, and quick thinking. Here are some tips to improve your game:
1. Teamwork & Communication
- Stick with your team: Moving in pairs or small groups provides backup and increases your chances of survival.
- Use hand signals: In a quiet game, hand signals can help communicate without giving away your position.
- Call out enemy positions: Alert teammates when you spot opponents so you can coordinate an attack or ambush.
2. Positioning & Movement
- Take cover: Always use trees, rocks, walls, and other natural obstacles for protection.
- Keep moving: Staying in one place too long makes you an easy target. Move quickly between cover points.
- Crouch and lean: Minimize your exposure when shooting by peeking around cover instead of stepping out fully.
- Flank opponents: Try to attack from the sides or behind rather than head-on.
3. Shooting & Accuracy
- Aim for sensors: Most laser skirmish systems require hitting sensors on the opponent’s vest, hat, or gun. Aim carefully!
- Take controlled shots: Don’t spray wildly—quick, accurate shots are more effective.
- Use burst fire: If your laser gun allows it, short bursts help conserve ammo and increase accuracy.
4. Stealth & Strategy
- Stay low & quiet: Running loudly or talking too much can give away your position. Move stealthily when possible.
- Use distractions: Have a teammate create noise or draw fire while others move into a better position.
- Ambush when possible: Hiding and surprising opponents can give you an advantage.
5. Map Awareness & Tactics
- Know the battlefield: Understanding the terrain helps you plan your movements and escape routes.
- Control high ground: Elevated positions offer better visibility and make it harder for opponents to hit you.
- Protect key locations: If playing an objective-based game, make sure to defend important points effectively.
6. Have Fun!
Play fair, be a good sport, and enjoy the game! Laser skirmish is about strategy and fun, so make the most of it.
Are there any common mistakes players make that I should avoid?
Yes! Many players—especially beginners—make mistakes that can put them at a disadvantage. Here are some common ones to avoid:
1. Standing Out in the Open
- A lot of new players forget to use cover and end up getting eliminated quickly. Always stay near cover and avoid open spaces unless necessary.
2. Staying in One Spot Too Long
- Even if you find a great hiding spot, staying in one place makes you predictable. Opponents will eventually figure out your position and flank you.
3. Not Watching Your Back
- Players often focus too much on what’s in front of them. Check your surroundings frequently to avoid getting flanked or ambushed.
4. Running Without a Plan
- Running around aimlessly makes you an easy target. Move with purpose, stay low when necessary, and be aware of enemy positions.
5. Not Communicating with Teammates
- Going solo in a team-based game is a huge mistake. Talk to your teammates, call out enemy locations, and coordinate attacks.
6. Wasting Shots
- Some players fire constantly without aiming, which gives away their position and wastes energy/ammo. Take precise shots instead of shooting randomly.
7. Ignoring the Objective
- In objective-based modes (like Capture the Flag), some players focus too much on getting “kills” rather than playing the objective. Winning requires strategy, not just eliminations.
8. Being Too Predictable
- If you always take the same routes or use the same hiding spots, opponents will figure you out. Change your movements and strategies throughout the game.
9. Making Too Much Noise
- Running loudly, shouting, or talking too much can give away your location. Move quietly when sneaking and use hand signals when possible.
10. Not Taking Advantage of High Ground
- Being on a hill or elevated position gives you better visibility and makes you harder to hit. Use height to your advantage when possible.
Avoiding these mistakes will make you a much stronger laser skirmish player. Want any advanced strategies or game-specific tips? 😊

Are there common strategies that successful teams use?
1. Communicate Constantly
Good communication is everything! Say your thoughts out loud, share what you find, and make sure no clue goes unnoticed. If you solve something, let the team know so everyone stays on the same page.
2. Search Thoroughly & Stay Organized
Check everywhere—behind objects, under tables, inside drawers. Many clues are hidden in plain sight! But don’t make a mess—place found items in a central location so the team can see and use them as needed.
3. Assign Roles (Loosely)
You don’t need official job titles, but dividing tasks can be helpful. Some teammates can focus on searching, others on solving puzzles, and someone should keep an eye on the time.
4. Don’t Overcomplicate It
Escape room puzzles are designed to be tricky, but they usually follow logical patterns. If you find yourself overthinking with complex math or abstract theories, take a step back—sometimes the simplest answer is the right one!
5. Use Hints Strategically
Most escape rooms offer a limited number of hints. If your team is truly stuck for too long, don’t be afraid to ask for help. A well-timed hint can keep your momentum going instead of wasting precious minutes.
6. Stay Calm Under Pressure
The clock ticking down can make people panic, but the best teams stay cool. If you hit a roadblock, take a deep breath, refocus, and switch puzzles if needed.
7. Work Together, Not Against Each Other
Avoid everyone clustering around one puzzle while other clues go untouched. Trust your teammates’ skills and keep moving forward as a group.
By using these strategies, you’ll increase your chances of escaping successfully—and having a blast while doing it! Ready to put your team to the test? Book your Wild West escape room today! 🤠🔐
